If you’re looking for comforting Chinese food in Oakville, Celadon House is the place to go.

The chefs at Celadon House pride themselves with a deep passion for making food authentic and original. All of their recipes are kept within the families of the business owners. What more, they make all of their sauces from scratch.

Celadon House specialises in Chinese food food that’s light, subtle, and delicious. If that’s what you like, some of the dishes I’d recommend are the Spring Rolls, Pork & Shrimp Wontons, Calamari Strips and Henan Braised Fish. Below is a picture of their Kung Pao Noodles with Chicken, prawns, sweet peppers, Spanish onions, chilies, and topped with crushed peanuts and scallions

Although they specialise in the light comforting, side of Chinese cuisine, a large portion of Celadon House’s menu is also spicy, rich, and loaded with flavour. They have a multitude of dishes to suit that taste. Some good options are the Crispy Szechuan Beef, Chicken Adobo, and Basil Prawns.

Whatever it is you’d like to order, make sure to start your meal by cleansing your palate with their Jasmine Tea. Don’t forget to include a big bowl of rice!

Cynthia’s Chinese Restaurant has been an established Chinese restaurant in Oakville for almost 15 years. This restaurant is designed to feel like a banquet from ancient China. As such, the interior is decorated with Chinese sculptures and artwork. The furniture looks directly from Ming dynasty, and the staff dresses in traditional imperial robes. Most of all, the food is delightfully authentic so that you’ll dine like an emperor.

Like most Chinese restaurants, you are given a pot of tea and a menu as soon as you sit down. Then, you can start to think of ordering appetizers. Cynthia’s has a wide range of appetizers. Their rolls, which include egg rolls, spring rolls and shrimp rolls, are crispy and flavourful, served with a side of sweet & sour sauce. Also available are fried shrimp wontons, chicken wings, spare ribs and chashu (sliced barbecue pork).

Cythia’s has a wide range of rice dishes to choose from. Of course, there’s the basic steamed white rice, which is traditionally paired with every Chinese meal. However, if you want something a bit more special, then Cynthia’s offers 10 different variations of fried rice. A notable option is their house special fried rice with shrimp, chicken, and chashu. The image below is their young chow fried rice consisting of peas, shrimp, and chashu.

Sweet & Sour

If sweet and sour suits your taste, then Cynthia has many options for you. Their sweet and sour sauce has the options of being doused in chicken, pork, or ribs. If you’re looking for something a bit spicier, Cynthia’s offers general tao chicken, szechuan chicken, and mongolian beef. Whether you like your meat sweet, sour, or spicy, there’ll be many options on their menu to satisfy your taste buds.

If you go to Cynthia’s around 6:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, you might have the pleasure of witnessing a performance! Cynthia’s serves as a venue for all types of performances from dances, to music, to plays. So, why not come for a surprise concert?

If you’d rather enjoy your food in peace, then that’s alright too. Cynthia’s Chinese Restaurant will be there any time you feel in the mood for some Chinese!

Pearl has been making award-winning Chinese food for over three decades. With an abundant menu, hard working staff, and timeless recipes, this restaurant is worth recommending.

Pearl’s daily Dim Sum menu is available from 11AM to 4PM. You’re encouraged to order many different dishes. Some highlights include Har Kau ($11), Chicken Feet ($8), Crispy Shrimp Rolls ($11), and Pan-Fried Green Onion Pancake ($8).

If you have the appetite for something more fulsome, try their 4-piece spring rolls ($8) or their tasty Sweet & Sour Pork ($27) which pairs perfectly with rice. For a more luxurious experience, try their Braised Lobster ($96) set on a bed of noodles.

Pearl’s standout is the chef’s special Peking Duck ($95). This succulent plateful of roasted duck has exceptionally crispy skin and comes with Hoisin sauce, prawn chips, cucumbers, and scallions. The duck and its fixings are enfolded in a small thin pancake called Chun Bing creating one delicious morsel.

Shanghai Alley is a gourmet Chinese restaurant that portrays the elegance of old Shanghai. A winner of AsiaStar TV’s “Best Shanghai Restaurant in Canada” award, Shanghai Alley offers authentic tastes that will teleport you overseas.

Classic Spring Rolls

Shanghai Alley’s menu consists of traditional Chinese foods with recipes as old as time. Their interior, with decorations on the wall and dim atmosphere, looks very similar to street restaurants in China.

Coconut Squid

Xiao Long Bao (aka Soup Dumplings) is probably Shanghai’s most famous food, and Shanghai Alley does their home country proud. Available with a delicious combination of ingredients inside these little bags of rice flour, they were one of the highlights of our meal.

Xiao Long Bao

There are plenty of baos available at Shanghai Alley, including the Sheng Jian Bao, which is a large pan-fried bao with delicious pork inside of a mantou (fluffy steamed bun). Another is the classic Jiaozi (Chinese dumpling) with a savoury dipping sauce.

Another highlight is their fried rice, with several options available including the traditional Shanghai fried rice or the Yangzhou fried rice shown in the picture below. Yangzhou fried rice is made with egg, shrimp, sweet Chinese sausage, peas and carrots.
