If you’re looking for a place for a classic Brunch in South Burlington, Skyway Diner is the place to go.

Skyway Diner takes pride in their buttermilk pancakes as their speciality. These sweet, fluffy, warm delights are sure to brighten up your morning. What more, you’ll find it common on weekends for there to be a limited time special pancake offered. These can range from all sorts of flavours, like Strawberry Chocolate, Birthday Cake and Peach Cream.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a satisfying breakfast if it was just pancakes. This is Skyway Diner’s classic platter, which serves two eggs, home fries, and a choice of protein along with your choice of pancake, waffle, or french toast. Additionally, you’ll have access to a pitcher of syrup and butter for you to freely drown your meal in.

If you’re looking for Lunch, an incredibly popular option at Skyway Diner is their Bacon Cheeseburgers. An 8 ounce patty of fresh Canadian beef, pickles, bacon, cheese and fried onions served on a brioche bun with spicy mayo. Along with a side of fresh cut fries, it’ll leave your stomach growling in anticipation.

Pancakes, eggs, and burgers are the classic breakfast items, but they certainly aren’t all the Skyway Diner offers. Their menu is actually incredibly expansive, dwelling into pastas, souvlaki, steak, porkchops, and ribs. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, so Skyway Diner is in no means just a brunch spot. We recommended trying out their sticky, fall-off-the-bone ribs, which are served with creamy coleslaw and crispy fries.

This friendly and casual pub, located in an unassuming plaza on New Street, doesn’t just serve “pub grub” – you’ll also find a ton of fun. With darts, live music, and a great selection of draught beer, The Slye Fox is a great spot for a casual night out with friends. Though, with a cozy and warm atmosphere, it’s also a lovely casual spot for date-night or even a family lunch. Kids and adults will love their creamy homemade Mac n’ Cheese feat generous portions of tasty smoked beef. And then, there is their smoked meats: ribs, brisket, pulled pork (yum) – plus salads, stir-frys, and flatbreads. Be sure to check out their Trivia night on Wednesdays (the longest running in Burlington) and their events calendar (which is loaded with everything from Brazilian Dance Parties to the Super Bowl).

In 2012, having grown up in Muskoka and sharing a deep love for the region, Kevin and Brittany founded a brand new restaurant in the heart of Port Carling, Ontario, and named it “Loondocks,” after the local bird whose beautiful calls echo the lakes at night. They created a fresh new destination offering quality casual fine dining to both cottagers and tourists.

Loondocks received overwhelming support, including articles in the local media, as they became known for great service and outstanding quality at a fair price.  In 2018, to be closer to family, Chef Kevin and his wife Brittany opened a new Loondocks location in a beautiful new space at Appleby Village in Burlington.

Loondocks offers a casual fine dining experience with industry leading standards for both food quality and service. The menu features creative French and Italian variations, using mostly local, seasonal Canadian products.  As for beverages, there is an extensive wine list featuring new and old world selections, and a wonderful creative and seasonal cocktail menu. In addition to their cottage-inspired main dining room, Loondocks features a rooftop patio, complete with an herb and vegetable garden. Jack and Joseph Chami, two of seven Lebanese siblings, fled from the Civil War in hopes of a better future. With them, their family’s bagel recipe, a recipe handed down from generation to generation.

The brothers and their family immigrated to Montreal, Quebec in 1987, and then to Burlington, Ontario in 1991. They loved Montreal’s Eurocentric feel, but what they found in Burlington was a beautiful, quiet town on the shore of Lake Ontario; a place that reminded them of their Mediterranean roots.

Both Jack and Joe had a go at their own careers and businesses for a number of years, but it wasn’t until they decided to join efforts, use their family recipe, and start a business together, that “JC’s” was born.

JC’s Hot Bagels was officially registered on paper in 1995, and the hard work started with their grand opening, on March 13, 1996.Working 16-hour days and 7 days a week, the brothers didn’t have a clue what to expect. Many people gave them two weeks to close, especially since they were located beside a major, well-established competitor. But their bagels (and their homemade cream cheese spreads, and delectable sandwiches – for both breakfast and lunch – hot drinks, salads, and more) set them apart from the rest. There’s a reason why this family-run bagel shop is still a community favourite decades later…and really, the only way to understand it, is to try it.
